Bice, published in 1947.\u00a0 It was mentioned in a great <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asagihatchery.com\/blog\/2007\/12\/the_blue_book_1.html\">blog entry<\/a> at Asagi Hatchery.\u00a0 I found a copy of the book!\u00a0 Although much of the information  \tis general in nature or dated, some is fascinating and possibly relevant to  \tsustainable production today.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bice describes &#8220;All-Hawaiian Emergency Rations&#8221; which consist of ingredients which  were apparently locally available in 1947, including: Fish meal, Red milo maize,  Pigeonpea meal, Soybean oil meal, Peanut oil meal, Algaroba bean meal, Pineapple  bran, Koa haole seed meal.\u00a0 He recommends supplementing with fresh Koa  haole leaves, Pigeon pea leaves, Sweetpotato leaves, and Honohono grass.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve typed in a small <a href=\"http:\/\/ahualoa.net\/chickens\/bice1947.html\">excerpt from the book<\/a> so you can see it, and added a mention to the <a href=\"http:\/\/ahualoa.net\/chickens\/\">chicken notes<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a rare, out of print book called Poultry Production in Hawaii by Charles M.
